Emergency wisdom tooth treatment explained

dental check-up

Before deciding what treatment course should be followed for your particular case, our dentist will carefully assess your situation and explain your options. Where a wisdom tooth treatment cannot help saving that tooth, the dentist may recommend an extraction.

Does wisdom tooth treatment always mean removal?

No, it doesn’t. If the wisdom tooth can be saved with caries treatment and a white filling, the dentist will recommend this treatment. If a hygiene treatment is required to relieve symptoms of gum infection around the wisdom tooth, an appointment with a hygienist for a deep cleaning can be booked at our four centrally-located London clinics.

In either case, medication and treatment will be provided during your emergency appointment to help with any pain and discomfort you may be experiencing. If full treatment is suitable, you may decide to have it completed within your first visit, or you can schedule an additional appointment when the infection settles.

Wisdom tooth removal /extraction/

Emergency impacted tooth treatment London

When a wisdom tooth is erupting and there isn’t enough space for it to erupt properly, or it has developed severe caries, the dentist may recommend an extraction. The extraction would typically be surgical.

Where possible, the procedure will be carried out during the emergency appointment and will be entirely pain-free.

During the initial consultation, the surgeon will first assess the tooth and overall oral health (an X-ray will be required). After the assessment is complete, we will explain the treatment in detail based on your specific needs and prepare a treatment plan, including all costs. Once we have obtained your consent, the oral surgeon will carry out the procedure as per the information you have been given.

Topical sedation is always administered during tooth extraction, and intravenous anaesthesia is available for nervous or anxious dental patients.
