What is cone beam scan used for?

The 3D dental head scan is nowadays used for the precise diagnosis of most complex dental issues. It is especially efficient in:

  • Analysis of the jaw, nerve canals, nasal cavity, and sinuses;
  • Analysis of bone shape, structure, and tooth positioning;
  • Planning surgical procedures for impacted teeth;
  • Diagnosis of TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder);
  • Discovering the origin or jaw or neck pain;
  • Diagnosis of jaw tumours;
  • Planning of reconstructive surgery.

With the procedure taking approximately 20 minutes and requiring no special preparation, a 3D dental head scan can help your dentist plan the quickest and most efficient dental treatment for your unique needs and requirements.

Questions and Answers

Is the radiation from a 3D Dental head scan dangerous?

No. According to the NHS, the head scan gives only 6 to 30 days of average background radiation and poses no risk to the general health of the patients.

Is there anything I need to do before a 3D scan?

The only thing that you need to do is remove all of your jewellery, hair accessories, and clothing with metal attachments (metal distorts the image produced by the scan).

How long does it take to get the results?

The 3D dental head scan procedure only takes 20 minutes during which it is essential that you stay absolutely still. Once this is complete, we will transfer the images digitally to your dentist who will interpret them for you and discuss the results.
